F is for THE FAKIR (and Oliveira de Figueira)
From the Tintin series (specifically, Cigars of the Pharaoh) by Hergé.
Cigars of the Pharaoh is my favorite book in the Tintin series, mainly because it was the first one I was ever exposed to. It was serialized in Cricket magazine when I was a kid, and the only place I saw Cricket was at the dentist’s. Since I was only at the dentist every six months, I didn’t exactly get the most straightforward, complete handle on the story. The Fakir was probably my favourite character as a child—he just seemed silly to me, with his wacky hyp-mo-tizing and all. Oliveira de Figueira is a funny little salesman fellow from the same story.
